Sample AUs not registering

Hi everyone, I'm hoping to convert some in-house vst-based stuff to AU,
and am starting with the Coreaudio SDK. I'm having trouble getting the
SampleEffectUnit and MultitapAU examples to register as AUs. I compile
them fine and move them over to my ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/
directory but they don't appear as possible effects in either of my
test applications (SynthTest and Rax.)
I've installed other 3rd party AUs fine in the same directory so I'm
not sure what's up. I've been logging-in and out between coppies to ...
Components/ but it still has no effect. I also tried the ln -s symbolic
link trick and logging/in-out with no effect.
Is there anything obvious I'm missing? Thanks for your help.
