Newbie Getting Started

Hi All,
I am a pro Audio Engineer and I've spent the last couple of years becoming familiar with UNIX
via various Linux installs and finally MacOSX which I've been using since the Public Beta release.
I've also made my way through a couple of books "Learning Perl" and "Learning Cocoa" from O'reilly.
Now that I've gotten my feet damp with Object Oriented programming, I want to go deeper.
Since my main interests are Music and Audio, I feel that I should focus my learning in that direction.
So, I'm looking for resources that lead to that end. I find myself unable to see the forest for the trees.
Could someone suggest a starting place? Is there any consensus on what would be considered
required reading?

If you feel the need, you may respond to me off list.

Thanks,

Tim Roberts
