There is an implementation of something similar on Linux called
JACK (http://jackit.sourceforge.net/). The client API's are fairly
straightforward. It uses a callback/pull model.

I investigated porting it, but most of the code is dealing with getting
realtime performance on Linux. I think it might be easier to just
implement the client API's from scratch on OS X.

It is a shame CoreAudio doesn't have this functionality, especially
considering the restrictive nature of ReWire licensing (" We do not
allow private persons, schools, or companies in other types of businesses,
to become licensors.").
