I totally agree, but I think that luckily we have that already and can
safely extend ParameterInfo with no compatibility problems as a result.

No, after reading the code, I think you are right.
Any AU using Apple SDK can extend the AUParameterInfo structure right now without breaking anything.
At least with current version of the SDK.
But I will probably not use this interesting behaviour unless Bill say next versions will not break this.
