Hi,

I've a well known problem : I put an Audio Unit (with my installer) in the component folder, but it is sometimes not recognized by CoreAudio when starting Logic. In the worse case, rebooting computer will correct the problem.

The questions are :
- is there finally a new method to do in my installer to notify CoreAudio that something has changed ?

Its not CoreAudio that is the problem - its the component manager - I'd ask this question on the carbon list (or better if there is a core services list)

- or should I state that this is a bug of CoreAudio that will be solved later ?

Not ours... There maybe something you can do to tell coreservices that there's a new component, but I don't think that's needed...

I dont see this problem - if I just drop a new component in the right directory, next time I launch AUHosting its there.

- or should I ask the user for a reboot systematically ?

all that you should need to do is Log out and log back in...

The real question is what is happening when you install.

If your install is overwriting a preinstalled piece - then you will have to log out IF you replace the directory that your audio unit is in (ie. if your insaller deletes an exiting MyAU.component dir and recreates a new one. (in that case logging out and back in is required)

If your installer just writes new files IN that directory, then you can relaunch Logic and it should work.

If your installer creates a new MyAU.com... dir and contents, then it should be picked up next time you launch Logic. If its not - that is a CoreServices (aka Carbon) bug and should be discussed with them

Bill

I know those questions have been already discussed, but I wanted to know if there were anything new on that issue.

Thanks,

Raf
