Newbie (sort of...)

I recently started doing audio stuff using Core Audio. I have been running into some problems relating to input levels from devices etc.

I wonder if anyone (or several people) have some good links to resources describing:
-> Audio sample format (what is an audio sample, what is the data contained therein comprised of)
-> Audio sample format conversions (signed int -> floating point etc.)
-> Level (amplitude?) detection, and conversion between various representations (scalar, decibels etc.)
-> VU meter implementation (directly related to the previous bullet)
-> Processing algorithms (delay, attenuation, artifact removal etc.)

Maybe we could put the answers to my questions into a FAQ?

I will appreciate all input!

Thanks,

\tommy
