I second this request!!! There is no reason that every app has to do this kind of thing. And while we are making requests, there ought to be some documentation for Audio MIDI Setup (AMS). A user of mine wrote to me on 4/29/03:

"Do you have a fact sheet about setting up AMS, Apple doesn't. Tech support there doesn't seem to know what AMS is! I spent an hour on the phone with them yesterday."
