I've had a bunch of user reports of stuck notes in my SimpleSynth, which uses the DLS music device, but have never been able to reproduce the problem on my (single processor) machine. The thought that it could be a multiple processor issue hadn't even occurred to me until this thread popped up.

So please keep posting with your findings for those of us that don't have a multiple processor machine on which to test!

I own a DP867 PowerMac. I did some tests with SimpleSynth using a modified version of PlaySequence (sample code provided with the CoreAudio SDK). The modification of PlaySequence consists in printing all virtual endpoints name and index, and binding "SimpleSynth virtual endpoint" to the sequence when the option -e is added to the command line. I also have installed Apple performances tools CHUD, which contains an extension which allows to switch from dual to single processor, so I could make the tests in both single and dual processor mode.

What I could observe in **both** single and double processor mode is that the sequence stops playing very early (almost at the beginning of the sequence) and notes get stuck. This does not occur when letting the MusicPlayer choosing the default MusicDevice (ie not launching PlaySequence with the option -e).

I also have a PowerBook G4, I will made the same tests with this machine and tell you the result.
