what type for 24bit

Im making a Cocoa sound editor, and im working on the soundfile part of
it,
8 bit = SInt8
16 bit = SInt16
32 bit = Float32

But what is used for 24 bit?

I was also thinking about converting the soundfile to Float32 when
opened for editing,
and then converted back to the original format when saved.

What are the pros./cons.
