Hello
I tought that the number of files is the actual number of samples used by
the instruments in one Logic song (and a few other files ;o)) ?
When you use the terminal it is allowing to set the max file limit to 64000.
I have also read that other persons are having problems with Logic and the
Vienna Symphonic library, looks like a bug !
From what I read on VSL web, a VSL has instruments could have up to 18
layers and one sample per note ; a whole orchestra has at least 30 different
instruments
18 layers x 48 notes x 30 instruments = 25920 samples
Hopefully instruments like the flute, basson, clarinet ... has less layers
May be the solution is not to buy VSL !
I just bought a G5 2x2ghz 2.5 GB 160+250GB and I am hesitating between VSL
and QLSO (Est/West)
May be Jeremy, has put it's finger on it saying :

returns rlp.rlim_cur and rlp.rlim_max both equal to 2048. Doesn't that

mean that 2048 is the hard limit?
Markus, if you have a minute can you answer to the following questions :
- Is there is way to monitor the global sample place used !
- one issue is to buy more memory so the samples are load into it, I have
2.5 GB but is not enough today, but as memory of 1 GB is very expensive it
is an expensive trial, if you could give guidance on the Logic WEB, it will
help users a lot.
- Using Virtual memory in the EXS ; may a solution is to set biger buffers
so you can do mor- The I/O pluggin parameter that was allowing to split the
load accross the 2 Cpu does not seem to work anymore using the EXS;
- On one trial I made, loading samples into memory, with having VM set to
OFF, I was surprised to have the message saying that no more memory was
available, in the metermenu app it show I had still 720 MB free !
- Another solution is may be to disable VM as we did in OS 9 ! but how ?
- A page of VM is how many bytes ?
- I have set a Raid 0 maid with "Softraid" non bootable at that time (the
Raid in MAC OS X does not allow partitions and does not allow the get the
disk space not used by the raid into a regular partition, so I have the
system OX 10 on a FW800. I would like to move, all the I/O traffic on the
Raid 0 (VM APPS ...) ; is there is somewhere where you can set the paths of
the "Application" and the "User" menu.
_ Same question for Logic
setting a path for "freeze" files
- I have an EXS that is controled by a series of "transformers" Logic does
not allow to "freeze" those track ! *
- When you have froze your tacks the Logic control volume faders are set to
-60
- If you have a track that is a transformer to an EXS instrument, the volume
faders are set to -60 and you cannot change them *
Thanks in advance.
Best regards
Cyril Blanc
France
* Those transformer are to convert GM program changes to command to change
layers in the EXS
