I'd imagine it could (though I haven't tried it for proof) - and so could a
WAVE... but how do you write a Sound Designer II file to the pasteboard
when it uses resources (old school resources) for it's header info, unlike
AIFFs and WAVEs?

With this float data type you get rid of problems like byte ordering and
headers that are specific to each type of audio file. This way they're all
compatible with each other - and transferable from one program to the
next...
