Panther / AU components on startup

  • Subject: Panther / AU components on startup

Hi all,

Question:- is Panther doing some kind of scan of AU component binaries on
startup? I have a user complaining that when certain VST-AU wraps are
present on the system (only certain VST plugins though, most are fine) the
computer is locking up with the pinwheel at the login screen. User says the
same system is/was fine with 10.2.8.

Anyone got any ideas what could cause that? For example, are there some
functions that the VST plug might try to call which are not available when
the machine is at the login screen? If Panther is scanning the AUs, which
functions is it calling? Is there a way of detecting this scan process and
loading only minimal functionality for the plugin if it's detected?

Regards,
Angus.
