I agree 100% with Mark.
All his points about the AUs docs are correct and could save a lot of
mistakes for a lot of developers. In the end this will mean better
AUs
and hosts, faster. Also it will reduce the support burden and volume
on CoreAudio list.
For me, better docs is in higher propriety than any new AU feature.
I think that most people here would agree with that statement! The
absolute most important thing for CoreAudio to do is collate all the
bits and pieces of documentation (i.e., statements from Bill, Jeff,
Doug, and Chris ;) that are available all over the place into a
single,
thorough set of documentation.
Yeah, I agree with that, but also I want to clarify what I was trying
to
emphasize (although I think stupidly didn't really say it in a
straight up
way) was that, while there are detail points are lacking and those of
course are important and should be filled in, I think that the biggest
things that lack are some general overview concepts and explanations.
And I was trying to list what I thought are the main "big picture" type
things that could use some attention.
Right now, I feel like there's kind of an assumption that you're
already
on "the AU page", so let's get right to the function and constant
descriptions. But there are some very important baby steps missing
between the very general intro section and the function-by-function,
constant-by-constant sections... ;)
Which maybe is exactly what you were just getting at, too, but anyway,
I didn't make my intent very clear in my initial message, I think...
No, I was talking more about the details. But you're absolutely right,
there really needs to be a good introduction to concepts used
throughout the AU world.
