doesn't the Xserve have firewire (400 & 800) and at least 2 full length
PCI slots?!?

y theres firewire, but will delta or motu software install and work on udf
volumes,
and how do you access the frontend :)

Attach a keyboard, a mouse and a monitor? - Or use Remote Desktop?

Does Xserve really come with udf formatted disc in advance? - Then you could just put in a HFS+ formatted drive, install OS X and boot from that?!?

Dunno, but to me, an Xserve looks just like a Mac in a slim case... It has a different mobo, but after all, it has all the expansion ports and stuff it needs.
