Urs,
Thanks for the quick reply. This great news! I have already been
using the virtual midi workaround and it's ok, but certainly not ideal.
I'm glad to hear the platform will offer furst class support of this
feature in Panther. I'm sure many developers will see the potential
and jump to fill the need...
Do you have any plans to build anything using these features?

Hi Matthew,
the next generation of CoreAudio (in OS X 10.3) will push Audio Units
into that region.
It IS possible now, by the means of the Virtual Midi endpoints, but
that acts rather like a workaround. From the info we have (it's posted
here some weeks back), the new features will do a great job, if - and
only if - the host developers pick this up.
Cheers,
;) Urs

One thing I would really like to see in added to AUs is the ability
to output midi. This would allow for some very cool midi processing
AUs to be created. Think of running something like Numerology as an
AU. Just as an AU can take either audio or midi input or both it
should be able to output audio or midi or both. This is something I
feel is missing from the Apple/Emagic platform.
Is this likely to happen anytime soon? What does the AU team think
of this idea?
