GarageBand instrument categories

Hi all,

I notice Glaresoft's iDrum is able to show up as an instrument when
creating a new track in GarageBand. However, none of the other AUs I have
installed show up in this way (it seems they have to be accessed by first
creating the track with a different instrument, then going to the Details
and selecting the soft synth).

Is there an official API for doing what Glaresoft has done, and, if so,
what is it?

Thanks,
Angus.
