badComponentInstance error using AudioConverterFillComplexBuffer

  • Subject: badComponentInstance error using AudioConverterFillComplexBuffer

I wrote an application which is supposed to record from an external audio interface 24 hours a day.
For recording one can set the format for the output file to the Apple IMA 4:1 encoding.
I use AudioConverterFillComplexBuffer() for encoding the audio data.

The strange thing is, that after a certain amount of time (16 hours or so, varies) AudioConverterFillComplexBuffer() returns an badComponentInstance error and my application crashes.

How is this possible and how can I check if my converter is valid?

thanks,
Berend
