induce the MIDI class driver to use a particular icon

Is there any way to induce the MIDI class driver to use a particular icon
for a device in Audio MIDI Setup? I mean, short of doing something drastic
like setting the relevant property myself. Can I even do that as an
application as opposed to a driver plug-in?
