Can you give us some background on what you would like to be able to do (or in this case prevent others from doing)?

As apps like Audio Hijack demonstrate, it is possible to get in between an app and the audio going in and coming out of it in user land by playing dyld shenanigans to pose as the HAL. One can use this technique to pose as any framework on the system. Further, you can do pretty much what you like in the kernel. It is especially easy in the kernel since the IOAudio family is in Darwin.

Hi Mac Core-Audio People,

As I understand it, there is such a thing in the Microsoft OS world as what they call a 'secure audio stack'. Is there anything of a similar nature available in the Mac world?

Thanks,
