QuickTime to external (or virtual) MIDI device?

  • Subject: QuickTime to external (or virtual) MIDI device?

I've exhausted my options, so I'm coming here to ask the gurus.

Is it possible to get QuickTime to play a midi track (or instrument) to an external (or virutal) device?

The application is that I have some projects where it would be ideal to embed a MIDI track inside a movie and use it for external device control, either with a MIDI controller or using a virtual endpoint that would interpret the MIDI data and control the device itself.

I can't seem to find any pointers on this though. It seems odd that we are at MacOS X 10.3.2 and QuickTime 6.5 and still don't have the functionality that I'm almost positive was in existence in much earlier versions of the OS.

Thanks!
