[Newbie] : sound generation from waves

Hi folks,

How can one have his own waves, which are defined as mathematical functions, played on the loud-speakers ?

I've read in the CoreAudio pages on Apple's site that the old OS 9 way using vectors is no longer available, but I couldn't find more help in this area.

Any hint is welcome !
