Distorted Audio Playback in 10.2.3?
Distorted Audio Playback in 10.2.3?

My app, which plays audio perfectly in 10.2.8-land (and beyond), sounds
incredibly bad under MacOSX 10.2.3. The sound - full of hissing and
distortion - is reminiscent of the noise made by a saliva-pump hanging
out of your mouth at the dentist's office. Seriously - it's the exact
same audio, from the same CD, in the same drive, played by the same
app. The only difference being - the system was booted with (a nice
clean version of) 10.2.3 versus 10.2.8.
It's probably true that I would be able to debug this - except... I
can't get a version of ProjectBuilder to build the project under 10.2.3
(all sorts of missing/incompatible Frameworks) and XCode won't install
on anything less than 10.3. The app does run (without other incident)
on 10.2.3 but there's something different about 10.2.3 audio.
Does anyone have a clue for me? I am guessing the byte-order is
different from what I expect - or needs to be rotated one byte or
something. Maybe I need to be setting some flag so it gets rendered in
the right order? I would be so happy to RTFM - if I only knew which M
to R.
Thanks VERY much for whatever you might be able so share,
Lance Drake
