Hi Jim,

You can only have one HAL output unit per AUGraph. That component
can do both input and output, but not with USB devices. Due to the
way the USB audio spec works, USB audio interfaces appear as 2 devices

one for input, one for output. So in addition to your AUGraph with
your
FX and HAL output unit, you need to have another HAL Output Unit
running by it self (not in the AUGraph) that collects input and via
some callbacks, passes data to the first effect in your AUGraph.
That is almost what I'm trying, but not succeeding, at doing. However,
I am using the method(s) described in tn2091, which don't include
AUGraphs.
I'm going to assume that since most of the responses to my questions
lately have been to look at tn2091, but most also include mention of
the AUGraph (which the technote mentions in only one sentence), that
the real key here is the AUGraph, which I'll go play with now. I'm also
assuming that other people who have posted suggestions have actually
done this, and know that it definitely works :-)
It is all explained here:
http://developer.apple.com/technotes/tn2002/tn2091.html
If only it did.
There's been much discussion of this on the list, search
for postings with HAL Output Unit in the subject line.
Yes, unfortunately most of the more recent questions are mine, and most
refer to tn2091. But I'll double-check the archives, and try AUGraphs
now. Hopefully that'll do it.
Thank you,
-Chilton
