I'm wrong about this, the start-at-0 behavior is still there.
I was looking for the subtraction that used to accomplish this, and
it's gone now -- but the code that manufactures the upstream timestamps
(to handle sample rate conversions / overloads / engine changes) starts
the upstream timestamps at 0.
