I am a desperate musician in search of a tool that doesn't exist...
Tried Numerology. Loved it. But, doesn't have the features I want.
So, as someone with experience programming in C, I thought I'd just make
something. Looked at MusicKit, PYMidi, and of course all the Apple stuff I
could find. Not as simple as the basic things I have done in the past using
ready-to-bake application frameworks.
I am looking to put together a simple MIDI sequencer:
Up to 32 tracks.
Each track to be able to instantly switch between different snapshots of
saved states.
A mixer for the tracks with standard metaphor for each track:
Solo
Mute
Volume
Pan
Output
List of snapshots available for track
A master track in the mixer with snapshots of the mixer state.
Import of .mid files output from Recycle.
Stop
Play
State changes (snapshot changes, and song chang) snap to beat or bar...
Imagine Ableton Live, but just for MIDI
That's it. No Audio Units. No nothing. Just a simple, stable live
performance tool.
What I can bring to the table:
Development of overall structure and purpose of software.
Development of algorithms -- this I am good at.
Development and programming of user interface -- this I am good at, as a
graphic designer I work with viusal tools, Flash, all day long. Decent
understanding of Interface Builder, going through some tutorials on Custom
View development that will preview in Interface Builder.
So, do folks here think that's something doable by a non-professional coder?
Or, am I better off to partner with someone on the development of the app?
Any advice tackling a new application from scratch, or interested takers?
