code for VU meter ballistics

  • Subject: code for VU meter ballistics

I'm looking for some code or an algorithm to accurately simulate the
physics of a VU-level meter, using acceleration, etc, and the most
efficient way to maintain a few different level references for each
audio stream (peak, RMS, VU, etc), as well as clip detection. I have
to code these in scalar and AltiVec versions, and my previous ioProc
code which tested for concurrent +/- 1.0f samples has been rewritten.
I'm looking for better ways to do all of the above... FWIW, MacFOH has
several audio analyzers that operate on FFT's already, and I thought I
might just add something to calculate these on the samples in the time
domain, which I can squeeze into the ioProc pipeline without much cost.
