but I'm pretty sure that many people don't bother with implementing their own stuff, hence they take the data section mechanism provided by your sample code. I think this is what Howard is after.

I hope my explanation in the other mail was correct.

@Howard: The funny thing with the .aupreset file format is, it is up to you to add as many additional key/value fields as you want. Hence you can comfortably create your own format if desired, just like VST's "Chunks", just with less hassle. The only things that are obligatory are a) the Plist XML format, b) the key/value pairs Bill listed. - Just, if you don't do anything about it, AUBase will create a CFData field for the parameter values, just like VST hosts do when you don't use Chunks.
