I was unable to find the post you mentioned, and the search facility
seems to have vanished from the archives page...
Still, the post Marc fowarded has gotten me through auval, so I'm happy
for now.

There was also another post about another (similar) problem with
AUEffectBase - there was a post from K. Ware that covered this:

I think we'll try to get a dot release of the SDK out shortly that has
these
fixes - but in the meantime the these two email threads should get you
through these.
