virtual multi-port destination?

  • Subject: virtual multi-port destination?

One of my apps (let's pretend it's a soft synth) supports 32 MIDI tracks, each with the usual 16 channels. (I may have the term "track" wrong here. I'm using that term because SMF files use that term.)

In order to advertise this to other apps, I'm currently creating 32 virtual destinations and using the readRefCon to distinguish them. I also create one input port and one output port.

All 32 destinations show up in other apps as if they were unrelated. It seemed from the available documentation that this is the configuration I should be presenting, but it logically makes more sense to me to create 32 input ports and only one destination. Would that work better?
