Hi,
This is kinda off topic, but this seems like a common coreaudio related task, so I figured you guys would probably have some insight into this. I am trying to set up a high priority feeder thread for my app, and am using the mach thread_policy_set with THREAD_PRECEDENCE_POLICY and THREAD_EXTENDED_POLICY. Basically does anyone know what the priority values mean? I googled conflicting answers, one article saying that mach threads run from 63 to 0, with the highest priority being 0, and another saying that higher values mean higher priorities, but there is no specified upper bound.
While I am on it, does anyone know why some threads cause my Powerbook to whine? When my app starts I can hear a definite whirring sound coming from it, it happens on my friends IBook as well. I have noticed this in other apps too, specifically QT apps, Max MSP, and a few other audio apps. No big deal, just curious if this is the sound of semaphores :)
Sorry if this is too off topic, I would appreciate a pointer in the right direction.
Thanks,
Jeremy Jurksztowicz
