An exponential approach (to prevent zippering) to the value you set
takes effect immediately.

effect? For example: If my application changes an input volume
while the matrix mixer is performing a render, does the volume
change take effect on the next render (ie- is change held off until
the render is complete through some sort of mixer state structure
local to the render, or maybe a mutex) or does it take effect
immediately (ie - as soon as the scheduler give time back to the
render process).
