kAudioUnitType_FormatConverter subtypes

Hello all. What is the differences between kAudioUnitSubType_Varispeed and kAudioUnitSubType_AUConverter?

Does the first perform only samplerate conversion and the second every type of conversion? If yes are where any reasons to use Varispeed instead of full-scale converter subtype? Thank you.
