Maybe I'm wrong, haven't used SMPTE/MIDI Time Code for a long time. Back when, it seemed rare to encounter practical sync situations involving MIDI which also involved drop-frame.

In practice, as best I can recall, 30 FPS and 29.97 FPS non-drop work practically identical from the software standpoint, except for a slightly different relationship between milliseconds and frames.

If just syncing MIDI+digital audio with audio tape (no video sync required in the project), 30 FPS non-drop seemed the most straightforward and least likely to cause brain damage. I THINK it was also the most common method for audio-only situations, but could be wrong.
