Direct Monitoring

Dear Core Audio group....

I recently googled the net (there's a phrase you wouldn't hear a few years ago) regarding the latest developments on Direct Hardware Monitoring with OS X and core audio. I was unable to find any new information in the intervening year since this was last brought up in detail on the Core Audio List.

This component of DAW/hardware control is critical to the advancement of technologies in the professional recording field, and my studio specifically. I am looking to the future for Chicago Public Radio to expand our use of applications such as Nuendo on a Mac platform so that we can provide audio services for our listeners and our record/CD clients.

Currently I cannot work efficiently with this application due to the contraints put on my systems due to a lack of direct monitoring. Are there any new developments in this area?

Low Latency monitoring of audio, whether it be from a tape machine or DAW, is critical to a professional headphone mix for the band and artists. This simply isn't possible short of a ProTools system.

I can't stress enough the importance of this issue.

Respectfully,

Eric Rudd
