No CoreMIDI patchbay functionality

Hello,

This is my first post. I just have a basic question...
In Audio MIDI Setup, I can add a device and make connections to my MIDI interface.
Don't know if it is necessary, but to route MIDI input from a MIDI keyboard to this
device I had programmed some software thru logic because it seems not to be
possible to do so by simply connect in the gui?
I guess, the patch cords are only for informational purposes and/or
naming endpoints - or is there some misunderstanding on my side?
