Metering response time

  • Subject: Metering response time

Hello.

I'm using metering mode on a stereo mixer. Apparently, it must be turned on metering mode using kAudioUnitScope_Global, but kStereoMixerParam_PostAveragePower must be read with kAudioUnitScope_Output. That was my problem before.

Now that I'm using metering successfully, I'm noticing that there is a significant delay in reporting values. What it's doing may very well be correct, but I need better response. When I turn the mixer's input to silence, there seems to be about a 5 second delay in the metering reporting silence. It gradually falls to silence. Is there a way to improve this? I'd like near instantaneous response if possible.

I tried setting the kStereoMixerParam_PostAveragePower to 0.0 thinking that it might clear the old values. Even though no error was reported, it didn't seem to have any effect.
