Edirol and Coreaudio?

Hello list,
I'm way out of my depth here, but I'm wondering if the collected wisdom here can shed any light on why my new Edirol FA-66 Firewire interface isn't working with my 12" g4 pb 867 - not Digital Performer, not Peak. The problem is intermittent soft clicks unlike the regular and louder variety one gets from normal clock probs. The guys at Sweetwater say that the guys at Edirol admit it's a problem with CoreAudio's firewire drivers. Apple didn't tell me anything. MOTU corroborated what Edirol said.
What exactly is the problem, just for my edification?
And is Apple working on it?
Sorry if this is OT or just a stale topic - my searched didn't turn up anything, but I might not have been looking in the right places....
Thanks,
Jamey Lamar
