The QT synth is actually the DLSMusicDevice - an Audio Unit (AU
Instrument) - (see AudioUnit/AUComponent.h and MusicDevice.h)
There are two examples in the SDK that describe how to use this:
PlaySequence - play a midi file back
PlaySoftMIDI - send and play some MIDI notes to the synth - that
could be used as a basis to hook up a MIDI Endpoint to send MIDI to it
A MusicSequence (PlaySequence ex above) can also be used to output to
MIDI Endpoints as well - either on a track by track basis (so you can
have a sequence that is playing to both AUs and MIDI Endoints at the
same time, or the entire sequence as that example demonstrates)
