audio converter question

Hi,

If you create an audio converter which outputs the same format as the input - say in a case where you want to change output formats but don't check the fields in the AudioStreamBasicDescription to see if it's different and it happens not to be different - and assuming the audio converter creates successfully (haven't checked to see if it would), will the audio converter "convert" the audio or will it just spit back out what it received?
