if anyone finds this interesting and feels that it can be done, either on a
commercial basis or otherwise, please contact me. i'm only interested in the
functionality so i can use it . . . as a standalone program or plug-in.
really the coolest thing to do would be to distribute it free, particularly
'cause of what it does. maybe we could get ircam or dia to fund it . . .

this would be a straight audio app with no midi involved
assume material with duration x
randomly cut the material into y number of fragments with z durations
(be able to set the range for possible return values of y and z)
arrange the fragments in random order on a timeline with duration xa
(be able to set the range of xa from x to ?, in effect, adding silent
regions)
1) it would be good if it would do 8 tracks at a time
2) it would need to accept 24-bit audio files (44.1-192 if possible)
3) it would need to be sample-accurate
4) it would need to function without degrading audio quality or adding
artifacts
5) it would hopefully function like this:
import files onto tracks 1-8
choose parameters for region cuts
(upper and lower limit of # of regions, upper and lower limit of region
duration)
process region cuts (as a set of references to the parent files)
choose parameters for timeline remix
(new timeline duration, upper and lower limit of duration of silence between
regions, option to allow regions to overlap)
process timeline remix (as a set of references to the parent files)
grouped multiple playlist functionality would give the opportunity to
compare multiple mixes
save session
file output from selected playlist to disk
the kind of music i play is free rock & roll - it's already randomized in
the stylistic performance of the individuals, and randomized in the lack of
interaction between the players - this would be a great way of randomizing
mix results - this would really help me achieve one of the goals of the
music
thank you
