If you're doing processing of a file - it might be better to use the
offline version of this au:
auol, tmpt, appl
What this will do is to swallow both the latency and the tail, so
you'll get in its output *just* the processed input samples - it
places all of the work onto the AU to do these adjustments (because
in this case its generally in a better position to do that).
You can see an example of how this works in the auprocess tool in
AudioFileTools
