New audio developer

I am a newbie when it comes to audio development for the Macintosh. I currently looking for the best way to add audio recording capabilities to my C++ or Objective-C program and I am faced with so many decisions. I am finding online information on Quicktime, CoreAudio, external libraries, etc and I am confused about what the Mac standard is for creating audio apps.

So basically I am wondering about recommendations about what libraries to use when writing an audio apps for the Mac OS X, what files/headers should I include in my C++ or Objective-C programs and are there any tutorials online I could follow to create this application. I basically want to find the most simple yet functional solution for recording sound.

Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated.

Tks
