Bill, B.J.,

Further, I think Michael's case is as follows:

Mono Input, Mono Sidechain Input, Mono Output
Stereo Input, Stereo Sidechain Input, Stereo Output

(ignoring Mono->Stereo or Stereo->Mono)

No - that is not what he said BJ.

Actually it is what I said(leaving out mono->stereo). Only thing is that the user should be able to not use the side-chain, but that is not a problem, since the host can choose to ignore input bus 1.

Reminding me, is mono->stereo used by any AU host at all?

The whole problem here is that he wants to do mono inputs and stereo output, but wants to explicitly dis-allow a mixture of mono and stereo inputs for a stereo output.

The whole problem is that I want to do 1,1 or 2,2 with bus 1 having excactly the same number of input channels as bus 0.

I think I now know this is not possible, so the only way to enforce this is to make 2 plug-ins: "SuperCompressor (Mono)" and "SuperCompressor (Stereo)". The first is configured to do 1,1 and the second to do 2,2. Both have 2 input busses and 1 output bus.

I have here ignored 1,2, which could be added to the mono version without problems.

Greets,

Michael Olsen

Bill

That is, the plug-in wants to see a sidechain input that is the same number
of channels as the main input. Does AU have a way to encode that capability,
or is that not possible, and does this imply that that the AU must be able
to support either stereo or mono sidechain -- regardless of the
configuration of the main input -- if it supports them at all?

Thanks,

B.J. Buchalter
