Hi Urs,

Please don't give up on the topic!

I think it's great that some people have the energy to fight the neccasary battle to improve things (in this case AU), it's just not me. I get too worked up about it.

So, even though I have plenty of suggestions, I'll just keep them to myself to be honest. I don't have room in my life for the battles it (in my experience) brings along to mention them.

Now that we did not get these I want to see how your case pans out ;-)

Well, I just got off the phone with the client I'm doing this particular AU for, and he agreed to support all the different configurations we might see from publishing 1,1 1,2 and 2,2. That'll be 9 different processing functions he will have to support if my calculations are correct (we both agreed that having one "dynamic" processing function which can handle all cases is too CPU intensive).

I'm currently faced with similar problems and what I'm gonna do is simply taking the mono sum if I get an unwanted stereo configuration. Which is probably not the best idea...

Yes, 1 thing is to decide to support it, another is to figure out what to actually do with the data. And I agree, doing a mono of the stereo is probably the best thing to do, except that we won't sum it, we'll average it (which probaby is what you meant also).

The unwanted mono case is more simple of course.

Greets,

Michael Olsen

Anyway, you can see from the debate that BusCounts and Channels are probably the most confusing (and most emotionally fought out) part of the AU specs and there's still no sufficiently easy recipe to meet even common cases such as yours or BJ's. But this may change if we find a good solution for you that we can all live with.

Cheers,

;) Urs
