The SDK's AUBase classes will I think work with 10.2.8 even - we've
tried not to build in linkage dependencies with the basic AUBase
implementation. The compiler and the SDK that you use to build your
AU determines your compatibility - I'm surprised that a 10.4 build
works with 10.3.7 because of the C++ changes between 10.4 and
earlier. There is a compatible way of building C++ for 10.4 that I
thought required 10.3.9
Other AU developers have built against 10.2.8 and that is still
compatible to existing 10.4 systems... But this is getting harder to
maintain given the changes for universal binaries.
The XCode documentation on both:

I just released a beta of several audio units that were compiled
for 10.4 ("Current Mac OS"). However people have been able to open
them with OSes as early as 10.3.7, which I didn't expect. Is there
a reference for the earliest OS that each version of the coreaudio
SDK supports?
Thanks, Tom
