Andy, I'd be keen to contribute where I can. I'm looking for exactly this functionality myself, and the best I can come up with so far is to write an audio input and output component that does bridging (in my case I want to record from other apps).  It'd be nice to have something a) open and b) transparent (from a users perspective).
