Thank you very much.  In the days since I wrote that message of desperation,
I have learned that I am truly in over my head.  I'm a hack C programmer, and
the API is in Objective C ... and, well, it's going to be a long day.

For proof of concept, I'm turning to PortAudio, which is structured very much
like ASIO.  But building a complete application the right way is going to
take a long time and a lot more knowledge than I have.
