When using a USB device for audio output, I noticed that the audio
glitches sometimes (i.e. stutters or pauses briefly.) This happens
using any number of applications, including iTunes.
Per some discussions earlier that came up during a search of the
mailing list archives, I ran HALLab and looked at the IO telemetry. I
was able to get iTunes to do this several times by running a configure
script for an open source library in the terminal. (PJSIP if anyone
areas.) iTunes broke up at least 3 times.
Doing this do the built-in audio doesn't seem to cause this problem.
I get several red lines in HALLab. You can The offset/lengths are very
large (around 200, whereas 12ish seems to be normal.) Also, under that
line, I noticed this:
<-Write: 3204 6038.107 ( +0.010) Error: 0xE00002EE
This is, I believe, kIOReturnOverrun a USB error. Any thoughts on how
to fix this or who is at fault? I want to use a USB headset for a VoIP
application, but such glitches are not acceptable to the client and
the Mac's lack a mic input.
Sadly, one can't export all of the data from HALLab nor does copy/paste work.
