How to sync?

  • Subject: How to sync?

I'm an Audio Unit plug-in newbie (but somewhat comfortable with CoreAudio and CoreMIDI in general), so bear with me, but can anyone recommend the best way for me to get beat information in an audio unit plug-in?

In particular, I'd like to make a plug-in that can perform a function, based on the current downbeat (as the sequence plays). I've read through the documentation and can't even decide where to begin. The docs say that most AU plugins are audio effects (not necessary for me) or music "producers" (eg MusicDevice stuff), neither of which sound like what I want. I don't need to process audio at all, nor do I plan to make a peep. All I want is timing information as the sequence plays. If anyone has suggestions to get me started, I'd be grateful.

Regards,
