Thanks for the link Matt--it's well appreciated. Unfortunately, I learned
about Soundflower at one point, but they don't fit the bill. They basically
install their own (virtual) input and output device, allowing a user to pipe
output from one app to another. All is well, but the problem is that Joe
Sixpack wants (and expects) to be hearing the iTunes that's he's playing as
its piped to wherever, not to mention that he wont be keen on playing with
audio input and output devices via his control panel to get things to work.
In any case, thanks for your time--I left something in your inbox as a token
of thanks. I think will email the cycling74 guys and ask them if they're
interesting in some co-development...
